International Mail

Package Requirements

How should I pack mail items that contain swords or other bladed weapons?

For safety reasons, when sending mail items containing swords or other bladed weapons*, put the blades in appropriate sheaths, wrap them in appropriate cushioning materials, and place them in a strong box, filling the gap between the box and the sheathed swords or bladed weapons with appropriate cushioning materials so that they do not move.

In accordance with the relevant provisions of the International Postal Terms and Conditions, the sender of an item containing swords or bladed weapons is liable for injuries caused to postal employees and for any damage caused to other postal items and postal equipment for failure to comply with the packaging conditions mentioned above.

  • Katana, spears, and naginata with a blade length of 15 cm or more, and swords, aikuchi, and switchblades with a blade length of 5.5 cm or more.

Note: Please attach a "deadly weapons label for international mail (Japanese Version Only)" in an easily visible place on the surface of a mail item containing swords or other bladed weapons if it is sent by EMS (International Express Mail Service), air mail or SAL mail.
