Recent information

  1. EMS to France
    EMS to France that is not delivered because the addressee is not in is returned to the post office nearest to that addressee; however, please be aware that the tracing system will indicate it as having been “Received by addressee.


  2. EMS to Germany
    EMS items addressed to Germany may be marked with “Returned because addressee absent” or “Delivered to addressee” in the case of it being held by local customs agents or being consigned to a subsidiary delivery company.

  1. Please note that depending on the situation of a certain country it may be either impossible to search for some information or it may take considerable time to have it updated. In cases like this, please visit the post office closest to your location to obtain necessary information.
  2. Please note that due to the time difference, the latest updates available at our website as well the display order may differ from the factual mail handling information.
  3. Please note that for countries/territories with which we are carrying out a trial information exchange, it may also be either impossible to search for some information or it may take considerable time to have it updated.
  4. Please use the additional services available at the websites of the post offices abroad.
    (In cases when you could not obtain necessary information using the “Additional Postal Services” in Japan, the updates may be already available at the websites of the post offices abroad. Please use the “Links to the Post Offices Abroad”.)
  5. “Approximate number of days until the delivery information is updated” (as written on the Parcel Post and Registered Mail/Insured Mail Post) means an approximate number of days from the receipt of the postal item until the day the information about its delivery status (delivered/returned) is made open at the Japanese website under the “Additional Postal Services” section. (Please note that this differs from the number of days the actual delivery process has taken.)

Tracking information on the website for customs clearance

Outbound mail from Japan

  1. The mail sent from Japan is subject to customs clearance in the destination country depending on the contents.In this case, the tracking information is indicated as “Awaiting presentation to Customs commissioner” or “In Customs” on the track & trace page.
  2. Operational dates and hours of Customs differs depending on the destination country.

Inbound mail to Japan

  1. Inbound mail sent to Japan is subject to customs clearance at eight offices of exchange. The office where mail items are cleared through Customs differs depending on the address of the addressee.
    When mail items arrive at an incorrect office of exchange, items should be dispatched from the arrival office of exchange to the proper office of exchange for customs clearance.In that case, they will be indicated as “Awaiting presentation to Customs commissioner” on the track & trace page.
    Therefore, please understand that items have not yet cleared Customs until you find the indication “Dispatched at Exchange Office” on the track & trace page.

  3. Customs clearance is closed on Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays and December 28 through January 3. (Part of Customs clearance is open on Saturdays.)
