1 Important Notes for Tracking Display
Countries/Territories with searchable information
(Please carefully read the following important information before performing a search.)
Important Information regarding Searches
- Depending on the situation in certain countries, it may be either impossible to search for some tracking information or it may take considerable time before it is updated. In such cases, please visit your nearest post office to obtain the desired information.
- Due to time differences, the latest updates available at our website as well the display order may differ from the actual mail processing information.
- For countries/territories with which we are conducting information exchange trials, it may also be either impossible to search for some tracking information or it may take considerable time before it is updated.
- Please use the track & trace services available at the websites of postal operators in other countries.
(In cases where the desired information cannot be obtained using the “Additional Postal Services" link in Japan, updated information may already be available at the websites of other postal operators. Please use the “Links to Post Offices Abroad".) - “Approximate number of days until delivery information is updated" (given in the table for Parcel Post and Registered Mail/Insured Mail Post) means the approximate number of days from the receipt of a postal item until the day the information about its delivery status (delivered/returned) becomes available at the Japanese website under the “Additional Postal Services" section. (Please note that this differs from the number of days required for the actual delivery process.)
1-(1) EMS bound for France and UK (in case of non-delivery due to absence)
EMS sent to France that is not delivered because of the addressee's absence is returned to the nearest post office, but please be aware that the tracing system will indicate it as having been “Received by the addressee".
Please note that when EMS items bound for UK are not delivered due to the addressee's absence, they may be stored at a post-office nearest to the location of the addressee, and therefore the tracking system record may appear as "Delivered to the Recipient Address".
You may be able to obtain further details about the shipped items at the EMS tracking system website of the relevant country. You can access them by clicking the "Overseas Post Offices" link.
1-(2) EMS addressed to Germany (when held by local customs agents or consigned to a subsidiary delivery company)
EMS items addressed to Germany may be listed as “Returned because addressee absent" or “Delivered to addressee" in cases where it is being held by local customs agents or is consigned to a subsidiary delivery company. We apologize for any inconvenience.
1-(3) In case the item was mistakenly labeled "To be returned to sender" in the country of delivery, but was delivered to the addressee correctly
The following problem involving postal items sent abroad and resulting from the incorrect input is currently occurring. In cases where the input “To be returned to sender" was made, and even though the item would be delivered to the addressee after that, when using the tracking service, the relevant display would still show “Returned to sender". Although the display shows “Returned to sender", it is possible to determine the location of the item since the field for the prefecture name indicates “Foreign country name".
We are currently discussing the issue with the authorities in the countries involved in order to prevent any further incorrect input and are also undertaking measures to improve the system within Japan. It may, however, take some time until the situation is resolved. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Status of an item sent from Japan to the USA was mistakenly changed to “To be returned to sender"in the USA on November 1, but was delivered to the addressee on November 2.

- If in the delivery country the item's status in mistakenly changed to “To be returned to sender", it will be showing “Returned to sender" even though the item is delivered to the addressee. In this case, the field for the prefecture name would show “Name of the country of delivery"
1-(4) Display content regarding customs examination for postal items arriving from abroad
Inbound mail to Japan
(1) Inbound mail sent to Japan is subject to customs clearance at eight offices of exchange. The office where mail items are cleared through Customs differs depending on the address of the addressee.
When mail items arrive at an incorrect office of exchange, items should be dispatched from the arrival office of exchange to the proper office of exchange for customs clearance. In that case, they will be indicated as “Awaiting presentation to Customs commissioner” on the track & trace page.
Therefore, please understand that items have not yet cleared Customs until you find the indication “Dispatched at Exchange Office” on the track & trace page

1-(5) About Overseas-addressed Letter-post Items Declaration (CN22) Barcode Tracking
There are cases when there is a special barcode on the CN22 Declaration attached to the overseas-addressed letter-post items (e.g. LC111111111US etc.), however, this is not a tracking barcode that can be used between the countries. Please note that it is impossible to use this barcode in order to perform tracking in Japan.
1-(6) About Incorrect Indication in Tracking Results for Postal Items Addressed for Canada
There is currently a problem where the tracking results for a part of postal items addressed for Canada that were returned to sender before being shipped from Japan display the status “Stored in the receiving country" instead of “Withdrawal from the post". This is a problem related to the system of the Canada Post. We have requested to fix this defect, but it may take some time until the problem is resolved. We apologize for inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

Refers to cases of incorrect indication where the tracking results for postal items addressed for Canada that were returned to sender before being shipped from Japan display the status “Stored in the receiving country" instead of “Withdrawal from the post".

1-(7) Concerning the Delay of Indication in the Tracking Results for EMS Items Addressed to France
Please be informed that the tracking information regarding EMS items addressed to France may "take longer than usual to indicate the latest status" or may be "unable to confirm the status in France" because of current unresolved IT issues in France since 13 August 2011.
We are currently requesting the relevant authorities in France for prompt improvement of the situation. We apologize for any inconvenience that may arise until the situation is improved and ask for your kind understanding.
1-(8) Concerning the Delay of Indication in the Tracking Results for EMS Items Addressed to Canada
Please be informed that the tracking information regarding EMS items addressed to Canada may "take longer than usual to indicate the latest status" or may be "unable to confirm the status in Canada" because of current unresolved issues concerning tracking system in Canada since end of April 2012.
