Present delivery condition for international postal items due to the Great East Japan Earthquake (25 April, 21:00)
April 25, 2011
Latest delivery condition for international postal items is explained below.
When the circumstances change, we will inform you accordingly.
- Postal items addressed to overseas destinations
Normal collection and transportation of postal items.
- Postal items from abroad
Some postal items require a couple of days longer than normal for delivery due to the damage to the facilities of Japan Post Service Co., Ltd.
We cannot deliver postal items to addressees in the areas indicated below*1, as they are affected by no-entry restrictions and other adverse conditions.
We are making every possible effort to ensure delivery of postal items to addressees, including checking at the evacuation centers*2 to find the addressees because we consider that the postal network is one of the most important communication methods available.
However, we would like to ask you to understand that certain items for which the addressees cannot be located in spite of all our efforts will have to be returned to the senders.
Additionally, postal items addressed to residents in the area where people have been instructed to stay inside due to the Fukushima nuclear power plant accident will be returned to the senders except when the addressees have notified Japan Post of their wish to receive their postal items at a specific branch or collection and delivery center.
We have resumed delivery of postal items addressed to areas where residents were previously instructed to stay inside and the conditions indicated below:
- The Government has instructed the residents in the area to be prepared to evacuate if an emergency arises.
- The Government has removed all restrictions concerning evacuation from the areas
Your kind understanding of our situation would be very much appreciated.

Japan Post now delivers postal items addressed to evacuees based on the lists that evacuation centers are providing from local governments concerned and the lists we have made from the notifications submitted by evacuated or relocated residents.
However, for smooth and rapid delivery of postal items, we request that you write the following two addresses on postal items sent to evacuees as indicated in Annex 2(PDF50kByte).

- Name, original address and phone number of the addressee
In addition, please confirm that the addressee still at the evacuation center before sending the postal item, as the addressee may have moved or will move to another evacuation center.
