Re-Delivery

You are notified of mail in custody, which could not be delivered during your absence.

Redelivery Notice & Non-delivery Notice

Redelivery Notice: 再配達通知書(Sai haitatsu tsuchisho)

Non-delivery Notice: 不在配達通知書(Fuzai haitatsu tsuchisho)

In case a registered or parcel post item cannot be delivered during the day because of your absence, it will be brought back to the post office and a "Redelivery Notice" will be left in its place. The mail will be redelivered roughly between 17:00 and 21:00, the same day if it falls on a weekday. (Redelivery is not available on Sundays or national holidays.)

If you are still not home at the time of redelivery, a "Nondelivery Notice" ("Notice of Mail in Custody") will then be left. The mail will be kept at the post office for seven days.

Please bring your notice along with identification to receive the item at the post office of custody, or mail the notice back to the post office after filling in the date (You may also specify a broad range of times, subject to delivery facilities.) and place for the next delivery.

The item can be redelivered to your neighbor or to your office as well as to your home, or you can pick it up at the post office of your choice. For your convenience, the Japanese "Redelivery Notice" and "Notice of Mail in Custody" are reproduced below along with their English versions.
